San Fran-Fancy Food Show
We spent last week in San Francisco for the FANCY FOOD SHOW at the Moscone Center. 1400 exhibitors introducing their newest products for the year, food artisans so proud of their craft, and many that do not go East to NYC for the summer show. It was all about discover, tasting great food, and building relationships with the nicest most creative Foodies!
Some of our favorites:
Ten New foods that you should get excited about. 1. Anything Maple. A 7 oz cube from Tonewood to grate on top of desserts. 2. Kale and brussell sprout chips 3. Breakfast flavors all day 4. Probiotics beyond yogurt 5. Pasta art…beet, spinach, turmeric for color 6. Elderflower and exotic sips 7. Seaweed chips 8.Macarons from Argentina 9. Award winning Extra Virgin Olive Oils 10. Healthy snacks. Honeycomb ice cream from LA Creamery…anything honey sells. Exquisite Chocolates, Darkhorse Smoked Brown Sugar to use with nuts and ribs. Anything with bacon sell, smoked and flavored salts for finishing. A taste explosion!
I could go on and on sharing food discoveries- tasting food until my stomach ached-and enjoying the restaurants of San Francisco. This was a taste explosion all the while learning about brokers, distributors, freight, and what is possible about getting product 3000 miles from coast to coast and keeping the retail competitive. Tasting is the key…cannot buy if you cannot taste, and recipes to experiment to use these amazing products to enhance food.
What else?
I AM A FAN OF UBER – I used it morning and night in San Francisco…never waited more than 5 minutes for a ride.
Lots of controversy in Boston but who cares. The tax cabs are dirty, they don’t come on time, drivers do not know their way, and the antiquated world of calling dispatch. Calling on the phone…how yesterday!
Click on the app…order the car, there are choices of what kind, and see on the GPS where they are, who they are, and how soon they will arrive. Yes there may be surge pricing during rush hour, 1.5-2.5 times the rate, but at least you get there right away with drivers that offer you water and conversation. Medallions for cab drivers are in the past and need to get up to date to compete. The current Vanity Fair article highlights the founder and his war with the cab companies. We not only are fans of Uber but also Airbnb because we stayed at an apartment whose owners could not have been more gracious. These companies are harnessing the energy of users to help them persuade lawmakers to let them compete with hotels and transportation. The San Francisco Chronicle report gives highlights of the controversy. More to come…so get into the new world of using the app, rating the driver, and getting to where you want to on time. And yes…if I can figure it out…anyone can! Enjoy!
